2 volume set. Considered by many to be the "Bible" of hand therapy, this is a classic text that combines the expertise of hand surgeons and hand therapists to detail the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of hand disorders. It is a comprehensive resource. The 6th edition is expected to be out later in 2010.

3. Journal of Hand Therapy .
Every April-June issue of this journal covers one topic in detail. The past 9 years have included: 2002-Splinting, 2003-Hand Fractures, 2004-Evidence-based Practice, 2005-Tendon and Nerve Repair, 2006-Elbow, 2007-Diagnostic Imaging, 2008-War Injuries, 2009-Focal Hand Dystonia, 2010-Medical Screening for the Hand Therapist.

4. Weiss S, Falkenstein N. Hand Rehabilitation: A Quick Reference Guide and Review. 2nd ed. Mosby; 2004..
Commonly referred to as "the purple book," this book uses a multiple choice question/answer format to teach and review a wide range of hand therapy topics.

5. Diagnosis and Treatment Manual for Physicians and Therapists, Upper Extremity Rehabilitation. 4th ed
This spiral-bound paperback book is published by the Hand Rehabilitation Center of Indiana. It is a concise collection of protocols. 6. Cooper C, ed. Fundamentals of Hand Therapy:Clinical Reasoning and Treatment Guidelines for Common Diagnoses of the Upper Extremity. Mosby; 2006.
Covering a broad array of common diagnoses seen in hand therapy, this text emphasizes the fundamentals of treatment. It is both thorough and concise.

7. Burke S, Higgins J, McClinton M,Saunders R, Valdata L, eds. Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation: A Practical Guide. 3rd ed. Churchill Livingstone; 2005.
Written in an outline format, this paperback text covers nonsurgical and surgical procedures used in the treatment of common conditions affecting the upper extremity. It is a practical resource for reference and exam review.

8. Cioppa-Mosca J, Cahill J, Cavanaugh J, Corradi-Scalise D, Rudnick H, Wolff A, eds. Postsurgical Guidelines for the Orthopedic Clinician. Mosby; 2006.
The chapters of this text were written by the therapists of Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. It contains 18 chapters on postoperative hand rehabilitation.

2 volume set. This classic text covers every conceivable topic related to the operative treatment of the hand.

This is a beautifully and heavily illustrated text that is an excellent resource for surgeons and therapists interested in the treatment of hand disorders.

11. Cooney W, ed. The Wrist: Diagnosis and Operative Treatment. 2nd ed. Lippincott, Williams and Wilkins; 2010.
Written by world-renowned experts from the Mayo Clinic and other leading institutions, this is the most comprehensive text and reference on the diagnosis and treatment of wrist disorders.

This hardcover book presents concepts of anatomy, biomechanics and kinesiology of the hand and upper extremity as they apply to splinting. It includes the basic concepts and principles of splint design.

16. ASHT Test Prep for the CHT Exam.
Available at www.asht.org/. This book provides a comprehensive overview of topics related to upper extremity rehabilitation. Its 25 chapters are written in outline format and contain many practice multiple choices questions.
